Citizen Lab - Interdisciplinary Research Group at University of Toronto
Citizen Lab is an academic research center based at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. It investigates digital espionage, censorship, and threats to civil society from governments and commercial spyware vendors.
The lab is known for exposing NSO Group's Pegasus spyware used against journalists and activists. It has tracked state-sponsored internet censorship tools, including keyword filtering in Chinese apps like WeChat. Researchers there also investigate commercial surveillance products sold to authoritarian governments. Their findings are frequently cited by journalists, policymakers, and human rights organizations worldwide.
